On June 2, the Star of Life Team held their yearly autism awareness day. Over 30 student volunteers from a variety of backgrounds from various Ottawa High Schools and Universities, worked to actively engage with students from Sir Robert Borden High School's autism program.
Our activities ranged in variety to ensure that we could provide a unique and structured environment. Activities included team sports such as soccer and parachute to help build team working skills, painting/art activities that aim to promote creativity and other activities designed to encourage self confidence such as bean bag toss, dance, and many more.
We want to take this opportunity to thank the incredible Star of Life Team who helped organize our autism awareness project as well as our co-organiser, Mitchell Valence.
With this project, our mission was to provide a safe and welcoming environment where youth with autism could build meaningful connections with members of their school community and gain new skills and experiences through hands-on activities.
Our innovative program strives to meet the needs of youth living with autism in our communities. We aim to provide engaging learning opportunities for them by organizing activities that focus on fostering a greater sense of community within our schools and promote self growth and confidence.
We would like to thank our project sponsors: Rising Youth and Taking It Global, as well as the Canadian Service Corp, for supporting this project.

The recent COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many families and we wish to aid those affected and in need. To help people beyond our reach, we began the safe school project. It serves to ensure that schools in various communities across Canada have access to life saving medical equipment in the event of an emergency. We hope that this kit can provide a sense of comfort and relief.
The kits contain a variety of medical essentials ranging from treatments for minor wounds to larger trauma situations. They have been specially designed with the needs of rural communities in mind.
With the remarkable assistance of our mentorship and funding partner, Chantiers Jeunesse, we have been able to put together our safe school medical kits. We truly appreciate their ongoing support and guidance throughout the course of this project. For many, these have been very trying times and The Star of Life team hopes our donations are beneficial to rural communities around Canada.

Due to the recent Covid 19 crises in the community of Bearskin Lake, the Star of Life Project began its Emergency PPE Drive. Viral Clean mask manufacturing generously donated 2400 masks to help prevent the spread of the illness in the community. Youth Ottawa, our shipping partner, has helped cover all the shipping expenses related to the delivery of the masks helping to ensure that these urgent supplies arrive in a timely manner to where they are needed most. We truly appreciate their ongoing support of our project and its mission to helping improve health care nationwide.
